Ballyconneely Area Print E-mail
Ballyconneely AreaBallyconneely is lined with beautiful beaches, for both surfing and fishing.
In the 1860’s, salmon was introduced to the Doohulla River, and today, the Emalaghmore Fishery which is within walking distance of Annerfield House, offers some of the finest fly fishing in Ireland.

Nearby, Ballynahinch Castle which lies on a 450 acre estate, which is great for day long cycling and hiking trips.  The Castle is steeped in a wealth of history.  It was the former home of the O’Flaherty Chieftains, Grace O’Malley, the Prate Queen, Humanity Dick Martin and the Maharajah Ranjitsinji.

Ballyconneely is an ideal environment for the riding enthusiast, and the local Equestrian Centers in Connemara cater to all levels of experience.  Errislannan Manor is the perfect spot to ride over Connemara’s rough moors, mountains and beaches and absorb the beauty of the Errislannan Peninsula which juts out into the wild Atlantic.

The village of Ballyconneely is home to the indigenous breed of “Connemara Ponies” with numerous home and overseas champions being produced here.  History teaches us that as a result of the Spanish Shipwreck, near Slyne Head, a number of Arab Horses swam ashore and bred with the small native pony.  The village hosts an annual Connemara Pony Breed Show on the third Sunday of July.
